In Kenya, the colorful handmade jewelry may be bought at the Maasai market or given to you by a new friend.
The women wear jewelry every day. Extra special pieces are brought out for special occasions.
Even though the women do all the childcare, cooking, laundry and they themselves build the houses, they still make time to sit in the sunshine to visit and work on their jewelry.
These necklaces are a work of art. Beads, buttons and chains are used to create the design.
Here’s my collection of bracelets. Several were given to me right off of the owner’s wrist. As a thank you I’d give her my American earrings. We may not speak the same language but all women understand beautiful things.
